Die Philosophie des Rechts in historischer Perspektive.Carl Joachim Friedrich - 1955 - Berlin,: Springer Verlag.
Jahrhunderts. (...)

Repertorium der Vorlesungsquellen zu Friedrich Carl von Savigny.Joachim Rückert - 2016 - Frankfurt am Main: Vittorio Klostermann. Edited by Frank L. Schäfer.

Carl Heinrich Seibt’s Prague Lectures on the Schöne Wissenschaften: The Beginnings of Aesthetics in Bohemia Carl Heinrich Seibt (1735–1806) was the founder of modern Bohemian aesthetics, that is, thinking about taste, beauty, and fine art, which he developed in a living language. Yet little is known about the content of his lectures on the Schöne Wissenschaften or his views on aesthetics. The following article aims to fill this gap in four respects. It explains why the topic has so (...)

The challenge of the exception: an introduction to the political ideas of Carl Schmitt between 1921 and 1936.George Schwab - 1989 - New York: Greenwood Press.
The Challenge of the Exception is the key that unlocked the ideas of Carl Schmitt, a leading political theorist and jurist who influenced the thoughts of, among others, Hannah Arendt, Carl Joachim Friedrich, Otto Kirchheimer, Hans Morgenthau, Franz Neumann, and Leo Strauss. Professor Schwab clearly articulates Schmitt's key concepts and relates their centrality to politics and the state, to the political theory of liberalism, democracy and authoritarianism, and to international relations. When Schwab treats Schmitt's interpretations of constitutional (...)

Nationalsozialistische Erfahrung und begriffsgeschichtliche Revision. Der Briefwechsel zwischen Erich Rothacker und Carl Schmitt 1933–1960.Reinhard Mehring - 2015 - Deutsche Zeitschrift für Philosophie 63 (4).
After National Socialism had destroyed any tradition in the history of thought, humanities in post-war Germany answered by criticizing this tradition, initiating a number of projects in the field of the history of concept. Erich Rothacker and Carl Schmitt, both compromised by National Socialism, can be seen here as predecessors of Joachim Ritter and also of Hans-Georg Gadamer. The letters, of which there are only a few, display consensus as well as dissent between the writers.

Hannah Arendt’s The Origins of Totalitarianism in its Original Context.Alfons Söllner - 2004 - European Journal of Political Theory 3 (2):219-238.
The objective of this article is to contribute to an understanding of Hannah Arendt’s special place in present-day political theory by means of a contrast between her Origins of Totalitarianism and four important political science studies of National Socialism and totalitarianism, three written by authors who shared the status of involuntary emigrant with Arendt, that are offered as constituting the original context of her work. A critical appreciation of the seminal works by Ernst Fraenkel, Franz L. Neumann, Sigmund Neumann, and (...)

Cold war liberalism in West Germany: Richard Löwenthal and ‘Western civilization’.Riccardo Bavaj - 2023 - History of European Ideas 49 (3):607-624.
Richard Löwenthal’s response to the challenges of ‘1968’ was more complex than that of most of his liberal colleagues. He did not simply remain beholden to the interpretative patterns of a German ‘special path’ (Sonderweg). He also, and increasingly so, drew on the conceptual framework of ‘Western civilization’ to make sense of and cope with the socio-cultural transformations of his times. What many like-minded intellectuals perceived solely as a ‘deviation from the West’, he also viewed as a ‘crisis of the (...)

    Psychological Types.Carl Gustav Jung - 1956 - Routledge.
_Psychological Types_ is one of Jung's most important and most famous works. First published by Routledge in the early 1920s it appeared after Jung's so-called fallow period, during which he published little, and it is perhaps the first significant book to appear after his own confrontation with the unconscious. It is the book that introduced the world to the terms 'extravert' and 'introvert'. Though very much associated with the unconscious, in _Psychological Types_ Jung shows himself to be a supreme theorist (...)

    Knowing – in Medicine.Joachim P. Sturmberg & Carmel M. Martin - 2008 - Journal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice 14 (5):767-770.
In this paper we argue that knowledge in health care is a multidimensional dynamic construct, in contrast to the prevailing idea of knowledge being an objective state. Polanyi demonstrated that knowledge is personal, that knowledge is discovered, and that knowledge has explicit and tacit dimensions. Complex adaptive systems science views knowledge simultaneously as a thing and a flow, constructed as well as in constant flux. The Cynefin framework is one model to help our understanding of knowledge as a personal construct (...)

  43. Dissociable realization and kind splitting.Carl F. Craver - 2004 - Philosophy of Science 71 (5):960-971.
It is a common assumption in contemporary cognitive neuroscience that discovering a putative realized kind to be dissociably realized (i.e., to be realized in each instance by two or more distinct realizers) mandates splitting that kind. Here I explore some limits on this inference using two deceptively similar examples: the dissociation of declarative and procedural memory and Ramachandran's argument that the self is an illusion.

How is democracy possible? Critical realist, social psychological and psychodynamic approaches.Carl Auerbach - 2020 - Journal of Critical Realism 19 (3):252-268.
This paper develops a theory of how democratic governance is possible. It analyses democracy as a laminated system consisting of three interdependent levels – the political/institutional, the social/interactional, and the psychological/intrapsychic – each of which is necessary for the others to exist. Each level is subject to a regulatory principle that is necessary for it to function appropriately. At the political/institutional level, competing political parties must be governed by the regulatory principle of ‘loser’s consent,’ in which the losing party must (...)
